Cherokee County honors Fire/EMS staff for 24 lifesaving responses and delivery assists

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners recognized firefighters and 9-1-1 staff on Feb. 17 for 24 life-saving responses — including 21 CPR saves and three prearrival delivery assists — and presented awards to individual employees.
Shane Bonebrake, introduced by the chair as the county’s director involved with public safety recognition, described the clinical impact of early intervention: “Early CPR and early AED use significantly increases survivability rate for cardiac arrest victims,” he said, summarizing national guidance about bystander actions and automated external defibrillator use. Bonebrake recounted specific saves and delivery assists and presented awards that included “CPR save” recognitions and “STORK” awards for bystanders who delivered babies prior to emergency services arrival.
The board applauded the recipients. The recognition highlighted local emergency responders’ training and outreach activities and underscored the county’s emphasis on bystander education and equipment to support survivability.
