Cherokee County proclaims 'Goodwill of North Georgia Day' as nonprofit marks 100 years

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17 presented a proclamation honoring Goodwill of North Georgia on its 100th anniversary and recognized the nonprofit’s local workforce work at the Woodstock Career Center.
At the podium, Elaine Armstrong, vice president of marketing for Goodwill of North Georgia, said she was standing in for CEO Keith Parker and described a two-decade presence in Cherokee County. Armstrong told the board the Woodstock Career Center opened in 2003 and “this past year alone, we served over 1,100 people and placed more than 300 into jobs” for residents of Cherokee County.
The proclamation notes Goodwill of North Georgia operates multiple retail and career-center sites across the region and that the organization diverts significant material from landfills while pursuing workforce development goals. Commissioners read the proclamation aloud and presented it to the organization’s representatives in a brief ceremony.
The board did not take policy action on the proclamation; the presentation was ceremonial and intended to recognize the organization’s local contributions and future workforce goals.
