Borough Clerk Steve Burnham told the Civic Affairs Committee the clerk's office and permit official identified a misnumbering in municipal code that, since 2014, had made a sign-prohibition citation unenforceable. Burnham said staff rewrote the affected sections and added a definition for "internally lighted sign" and clarified sign standards by district so interior and exterior sign rules are explicit.
"The glitch caused code that used to be an immediate citation to be exempt," Burnham said, describing the change as a rewrite to restore enforceability and to add a prohibited sign section that now includes internally lighted signs.
Committee members indicated they were comfortable having staff finish the draft and bring it to the assembly. Chair Potter said staff will prepare the item for assembly consideration.
What happens next: staff will finalize edits, secure any necessary attorney review, and return the corrected ordinance/code language to the assembly for formal action.
