Michael Lehi, who identified himself as a citizen, told the Skagway Municipality committee that a deteriorating squatter cabin near Mile 4.5 has become a safety and liability concern.
Lehi said he has observed scooter tours stopping at the site and that the structure — which he described as looted and rotted — contains loose building materials and trip hazards. "It's all rotted out and Yeah," Lehi said, adding there are no signs marking municipal property or warning of danger. He asked the committee to place the issue on the city's radar and suggested posting no‑trespassing or condemned signage.
Officials discussed ownership uncertainty; one participant said the parcel could be state property. The chair suggested temporary measures such as a condemned sign or tape and directed staff to investigate ownership and safety risks. "We will we'll go investigate and figure something out," an official said in response to Lehi's remarks.
The committee did not record a formal action at the meeting; officials agreed to follow up by investigating the property and determining next steps.
