The chair said he and Manager Emily Deach attended Alaska Municipal League classes on asset management and noted the municipality has begun compiling asset-life and replacement data, including an asset module in the accounting system. The chair said the goal is to have a ready asset plan by the end of 2025 that will inform budget choices and support an online, interactive tool so residents can see what the town owns and why funding is needed.
An assembly member said the treasurer already maintains much of the required information, which could speed the process. Manager Deach confirmed staff have a starting point and said she would work with public works and finance staff to assemble timelines and lifespan estimates. The committee welcomed the plan as a way to justify future budget requests and support clearer public communication about long-term infrastructure needs.
