The Skagway Finance Committee on Jan. 15 recommended that the Municipal Assembly approve a KPFF/Anchor QEA design and permitting proposal for a small, targeted dredging project near a corner of the floating dock where silt accumulates. The committee recommended forwarding a design contract not to exceed $196,826.
Manager Deitch said the scope focuses on a small portion of the harbor where the corner is shallow at extremely low tide, and that permitting and sediment sampling are likely the biggest costs. She said the work is expected to be low-impact (likely clamshell dredging) and that marine-mammal monitoring may be required during operations.
Alex moved and the committee recommended forwarding the design scope and contract to the assembly; the voice vote to recommend approval passed unanimously. Staff said this limited dredge is separate from a larger harbor dredge project and is intended as a maintenance action to address ongoing silt deposition near the floating dock.
