The Municipality of Skagway Assembly opened a public hearing on Ordinance 25-12, a proposal to replace section 3.01.0.125 and adopt updated ethics standards for officials and employees, and then voted to postpone the item to the Oct. 2 meeting to allow members more time to refine amendments and accommodate additional attorney review.
During public comment, Sherry Quarrington raised concerns that the ordinance’s post-service employment restriction (one year) should extend beyond municipal positions to cover other compensated positions and potential private-sector conflicts. Mayor Collodi said the draft had been reviewed by one attorney and that Attorney Costello provided independent review and proposed amendments; the packet included attorney comments and suggested language changes.
Assemblymember Hillis said she planned to bring an amendment but asked for more time for that work; Hillis moved to postpone and Potter seconded. The motion to postpone carried on roll call.
