The motion to send the report back to finance passed on a 5‑yes roll call.
Public comment highlighted concerns that the $5 cruise passenger fee, set in 2007, is worth roughly 30 percent less when adjusted for inflation. "The $5 was set in 2007 and now is worth 30% less when adjusted for inflation," resident Sherry Corrington told the assembly, urging Southeast ports to advocate for an increase.
At committee and at the assembly, members said they were not ready to move the resolution forward without a clearer understanding of methodology and how costs for police and fire services were allocated. "I would be greatly interested in at least having a representative McKinley... present this research," an assembly member said during debate.
The referral directs finance to invite a McKinley Group representative to answer methodology questions and to prepare any additional information needed before the assembly considers further action. No change to fees or policy was approved at the meeting.
