Skagway Assembly approves clinic X-ray design and dock engineering contracts; sales-tax-holiday and other items pass

At its Sept. 4 meeting the Skagway Assembly approved multiple procurement and policy items, including clinic facility design services and marine engineering oversight, and adopted a seasonal sales-tax‑holiday resolution.
Clinic X-ray design services The assembly approved a design-services contract with CRW Engineering for clinic X-ray room improvements in an amount not to exceed $64,056, without written authorization by Skagway to exceed that cap. Assemblymembers said the work is necessary to accommodate a recently funded X-ray unit and may require electrical upgrades, minor renovations and possible lead lining. Assemblymember Hanson noted the importance of local X-ray capacity to expedite care: "We do have to have a new functioning, working, modern X-ray machine because it’s important in that your people being able to get those X-rays here really expedites their ability to then go get treatment when they leave."
Dock anodes and coatings engineering The assembly approved KPFF for Ordoq anodes and coatings construction management services in an amount not to exceed $1,291,142 to oversee design and construction of dock anodes and coatings. Members said this engineering is necessary to prevent accelerated corrosion and preserve dock infrastructure.
Sales tax holiday and other items The assembly adopted Resolution 25-21R declaring Oct. 1, 2025–March 31, 2026 a sales‑tax holiday for retail sales, intended to encourage local holiday purchases and align with an upcoming ballot question. The assembly also approved a letter of support for Manager Emily Deetsch’s membership on the Southeast Conference Board.
