Cape Coral Youth Council finalizes travel plans for National League of Cities conference in D.C.

The Cape Coral Youth Council used its March 6 meeting to finalize logistics and expectations for the National League of Cities Congressional Cities Conference in Washington, D.C., scheduled for March 13–17.

Staff and advisors briefed members on travel times, identification requirements and attire. Miss Griglin and other staff encouraged everyone to bring a REAL ID or passport and noted each student may check one bag subject to airline weight limits; staff asked members to be at the designated meeting spot well in advance of a morning flight.

Advisor Hayden, who ran orientation with chaperones, said students will pick up credentials at the Marriott Marquis near the conference and that youth-specific sessions are available even though general city-leader sessions have limited capacity. The group was told there will be delegation receptions (including a Florida-state reception) and an opportunity to meet Congressman Donald during the visit.

Organizers emphasized conduct and dress: business casual is acceptable for most events but the dinner with the congressman calls for nicer attire. Staff offered to arrange a single bus to the airport so the delegation travels together and asked students to monitor a group text for fast updates.

Chair and staff also reminded members of scheduled tours (National Archives, Capitol and White House visits) and practical packing tips: checked-bag weight limits, liquid limits (4-ounce rule for carry-ons) and comfortable shoes for walking. Staff said they will check students in the day before travel and distribute boarding passes.

Next steps: Students should confirm arrival to the group text, finalize luggage and attire, and follow coach/chaperone instructions for meeting time and airport pickup.
