Testimony and history: Dallas told the committee that Drew Haines Brown was born July 5, 1954, joined the Cobb County Police Department on Sept. 26, 1977, and was killed on Dec. 17, 1983, when a drunk driver struck his patrol car. She recounted honors established in his memory, including a department award presented annually and a scholarship at Kennesaw College. The presenter said Brown served on a DUI task force and that local memorials and awards commemorate his service.
Committee action: The committee adopted a motion of due-pass for LC 394985 S (the combined road-naming bill) and voted unanimously to advance the resolution to the Rules Committee. Chair thanked the family for attending and described road and intersection naming as one of the highest state recognitions available for citizens and officers.
What happens next: The resolution will proceed to Rules and remain available for consideration by the General Assembly under the normal legislative process for such honorary measures.
