The staff member said the project lready scheduled several intensive "summer slam" 10‑week sessions and that "the project runs through 2027." They added that the "August 17 date is our kind of drop dead" for having work completed so school can operate normally.
District plans call for Sugar Camp to be the first phase; "the kitchen facilities are up for demolition and reconstruction already the week of March 16, spring break," the staff member said, and staff have developed a plan to continue delivering food to students during that work.
At the 3 Lakes campus, construction will begin in the elementary area with a new secure entry and office space, the staff member said. Work trailers, heavy equipment and fencing will be delivered as site prep begins "as soon as next week," and students should expect partitioned halls and altered circulation in some buildings.
Addressing athletics, the staff member said the district has sought to avoid canceling seasons: "Soccer is slated as normal. Our track and field also is looking at same as always." Outdoor work affecting fields is scheduled to start after June 1, the staff member said, which the district expects will allow seasonal sports to finish.
The staff member said some district facilities will remain available: the fitness center is expected to stay open around the clock, though it "may be days where there aren't going to be accessibility because of, for instance, a shutdown in power." They also said the big gym will remain open for student and athletic activities but the district will not accept outside reservations this year, and many public events will need to be rescheduled or moved.
Officials said they will communicate with affected groups in the coming week and thanked the community for patience. "The community has been fantastic. They have been so understanding and supportive," the staff member said, urging patience through what they described as an approximately 18‑month project period with benefits for students and the community once complete.
