Board appoints Daniel Gomez Tagle (Area 1) and Michael O'Connor (Area 2) to vacancies

Trustees recorded three votes for Gomez Tagle and two for Galan; the board then moved and passed a motion to appoint him.
For Trustee Area 2, Michael O'Connor was the sole applicant. The board moved to appoint him to the vacancy and voted unanimously (5–0) to confirm the appointment. Superintendent Hart Rodis will arrange onboarding and introductions to cabinet departments and district procedures for both appointees.
Board members spoke in favor of community engagement and noted this appointment process reflects the state's trustee‑area transition steps; several trustees also highlighted concerns about the California Voting Rights Act process that results in board appointments rather than election contests in certain cases.
Both appointees expressed an intention to engage with community partners and emphasize student access and equity.
