The committee met to finalize logistics for the town’s Patriot’s Day parade and reception and to schedule an in-person follow-up. Members confirmed assignments for signage, badges, refreshments and audiovisual needs and agreed to confirm a final honoree name for the plaque and banner.
The meeting’s most immediate outcome was scheduling an in-person meeting for Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m. to review parade applications and approve final event details. Holly (chair) said the committee would meet in person to “go through the Patriots Day checklist and work on that.” Nick (committee member) confirmed he could attend and Nancy (committee member) agreed to make the March 11 meeting accessible by Zoom if needed.
Committee members discussed the honored-citizen presentation and the physical items that accompany it. Nancy said Donna will prepare the plaque and certificate; the committee discussed whether the plaque should read “Elmer Funkhouser” while other materials might use “Pete Funkhouser.” They agreed to confirm the exact spelling and how the honoree prefers to be listed and to email the committee once the honoree’s preference is verified. Holly said she would not change formal wording without confirmation.
Logistics for the reception and parade were assigned. Committee members confirmed they had saved many of last year’s name badges and that Nancy would arrange the three missing badges and one for Sandy. Alyssa (committee member) agreed to handle refreshments with a target cost closer to $500, down from last year’s $550. The committee also discussed contacting volunteers and civic groups (Minute Men, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H) to confirm participation.
On stage and sound needs for the bridge, the committee said National Park staff told them a full stage would not be provided as a routine accommodation; instead, organizers should plan for a small podium near the obelisk and check on power availability. Holly said the committee will ask Jeff at an upcoming meeting about electricity at the bridge.
The committee assigned audiovisual tasks: Holly will contact the CCTV team and forward a vendor recommendation from Minute Man Media Network that Shannon had emailed. The meeting closed after members confirmed action items and agreed to follow up with emails and a March 4 in-person session.
The committee adjourned after confirming those next steps.
