Newly appointed 41B District Court judge returns funds to Mount Clemens, highlights court programs

Judge Jacob Femenino Jr. told the Mount Clemens City Commission he was appointed to the 41B District Court by Gov. Whitmer and that he is the first judge from Mount Clemens to serve on that bench in many years. “I consider it my home, and I’m proud to be serving the community,” he said.

Femenino said he has been on the bench about six weeks and reported the court is in a “fantastic financial position.” He said the court is “giving money back to the communities again” and presented a check to the city. He added the court is paying down a bond to complete a new court building and had recently completed a report on the court budget.

The judge encouraged residents to use court services for routine matters and described several specialized dockets, saying, “we have some great courts there, specialized courts, drug courts, sobriety court, veterans court.” He also said the court had created a veterans memorial and that he planned to work with the mayor and local historical groups to bring more local court history to public attention.

Commissioners thanked Femenino for his remarks and his years of service on local boards and commissions; the mayor noted the city appreciated the check. Femenino said he also teaches politics at Macomb Community College and encouraged continued civic participation.

The presentation concluded with the judge offering to be available to residents with questions about court services.
