Mount Clemens commission rejects broad hazard-pay expansion, approves extension for fire and Dial-A-Ride

An initial motion that would have extended hazard pay to include fire, Dial-A-Ride, utilities and Department of Public Services (DPS), retroactive to April, included cost figures provided by City Manager Johnson: approximately $9,325 for utilities and DPS for April and about $6,664 for fire and Dial-A-Ride for April (a combined April cost around $15,990). A commissioner who supported broader coverage moved the approach, but the motion failed on a roll-call vote.
Commissioners then proposed and passed an amended motion that limited the extension to fire and Dial-A-Ride through the 500 hours previously approved or until the governor ends the stay-at-home order.
What happens next: finance and human-resources staff will implement the hazard-pay extension for the approved employee groups, and payroll will be adjusted per the commission's direction.
