The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners approved a professional services contract (C2026068) on March 5 to design pavement reconstruction at the intersection of Southeast 45th and Southeast Adams Streets, including replacement of the signalized intersection with a two-lane roundabout.
Public Works Director Courtney House said the county received six proposals and selected Professional Engineering Consultants PA to provide design services for a total not-to-exceed cost of $295,000 to be paid from the 2026 public works operating budget. House described the plan to remove the signalized intersection and install a two-lane roundabout, noting advantages for traffic flow and that roundabouts are designed to accommodate truck traffic using a truck apron. House also said construction scheduling will account for traffic shifts expected during I-70 closures.
Commissioner Aaron Mays moved approval; Commissioner Kevin Cook seconded; the motion passed 2 to 0.
