Le Mars library marks 150 years; council approves consent items including liquor-license renewals

At the March 3 meeting, Carrie Hitchler (S3), a librarian at the Le Mars Public Library, invited the council and the public to the library’s 150th birthday celebration. She said kickoff events next Wednesday will include a community coffee, a mayoral proclamation, unveiling of a new logo and library cards designed by local school students, and a schedule of events through August including a Carnegie presentation, trivia, scavenger hunts, a bookmark contest in June, community reads in July and a final Aug. 6 event with food trucks and a performance by the Ericsson Brothers Band.
Earlier the council approved the consent agenda, which included approval of a Feb. 12 special meeting and Feb. 17 regular meeting minutes, bills through Feb. 28, renewal of liquor licenses (including Bob’s San Juan Bakery), five‑day liquor licenses, premise transfer amendments for hospitality businesses, a commercial solid waste collection license and Crossroads Commons change order No. 1. Council members asked for a brief explanation of the change order; staff (S6) explained it adds a service line to Lot 10 because the mapped line is a force main and cannot be tapped.
