"I wanna make the community aware of an important budget workshop that's coming up on August 21 at 05:00," Marshall said, adding: "Please, please get involved and come to this community budget workshop as this is going to have a direct impact on your day to day life." He said residents may be asked to consider options including raising fees or reducing services to keep the city financially healthy.
Marshall identified specific service areas that could be affected if the city pursues cuts: staffing levels at the fire department and the police department, and service levels and programs in parks and recreation. He said staff will present revenue and expense trends at the workshop and discuss possible combinations of fee adjustments and service reductions; no decisions were made during the announcement.
Marshall encouraged residents with questions to email him or to email their city commissioner; the announcement noted email addresses were provided with the notice. The city manager said the workshop is an opportunity for community input on balancing the budget and that officials are reviewing "any option to make the city run-in a healthy manner."
