Wilson County solid waste report shows steady tonnage; board approves Lebanon City cleanup

Randy Likings, who presented the county solid waste report, told the board the facility recorded 253 tons on page 2 of the report with revenue of 22,566; he cited year-to-date figures shown in the packet and said recycling intake was 263 tons with revenue of $22,049.40.

"On page 2 of the landfill activity report, the property took in 253 tons. The revenue is 22,566," Randy Likings said, and he noted that year-to-date totals and hauling numbers were broadly similar to the prior period. He added that 132 tons were hauled to Smith County, with associated tipping fees noted in the report.

The board voted to approve a request for the Lebanon City annual cleanup after a motion and second were recorded. The vote was taken by voice.

Officials announced operational closures for upcoming holidays: convenience centers will be closed on Easter Sunday and the landfill will be closed on Good Friday to give staff the holiday weekend off.

During the solid waste discussion a resident asked whether convenience centers accept tree limbs, leaves and brush. The resident asked, "We don't take at the landfill I mean, at the convenience centers, tree limbs and leaves and brush?"

Randy Likings replied that loose yard waste and brush are not accepted at the convenience centers because of volume and handling constraints, though he said bagged leaves could be reviewed at the compactor. "No yard waste at the convenience center," he said, adding that brush is too bulky to manage at the sites.

The board also recorded a procedural approval of a routine report (referred to in the meeting as a 'proof report') by voice vote. No statutory authorities were cited during the solid waste agenda item.

The meeting closed routine business and moved to other agenda items later in the session.
