County Manager Phillips updated the Board on the budget process, saying staff met with the health department and would next await numbers from the Department of Social Services. He said the budget message is scheduled for April 2 at 6 p.m., that the county will hold at least three workshops to review the proposed budget and that the work for this year will be done manually while the county plans to move to an automated system next year.
"Once we get through with DSS, I'll continue to work with the finance officer and her assistant as we crunch the numbers," Phillips said, adding he would scan and distribute the budget calendar to commissioners before leaving the meeting. He said any items that require board approval before inclusion in the proposed budget would be brought forward in advance so commissioners know the "ingredients" before finalizing numbers.
Phillips characterized the work as iterative and said staff would meet with commissioners as needed between now and the April 2 budget message to explain specific requests or changes.
