County staff provided an update on secondary-road projects at the March 2 Muscatine County supervisors meeting, including planned closures and expected time frames.
Brian (introduced by the chair) briefed the board that Stewart Road crews plan to close and resume work beginning March 10. He said work on F70 through the Cedar River Valley is scheduled to close March 11 and that both closures are expected to take multiple months. "Probably the quickest would be 3 to 4 months," Brian said, adding that "5, 6 months is probably more accurate" as a realistic time frame depending on river levels.
Brian said the county is coordinating with the state because the state plans a Highway 6 bridge project east of West Liberty that will use F70 for detours; he said it would be preferable if county and state work did not occur simultaneously. River levels and potential flooding were noted as factors that could extend timelines.
Supervisors asked whether roads would be operational by harvest season; staff responded that was the hope if flooding does not delay work. No formal board action was taken on the road updates — they were provided for information.
