Criminal justice council eases quorum rules; Justice Point gets $10,000 donation and faith group explores one-night shelter

The Sawyer County Public Safety Committee received an update from criminal justice coordinator Mike about recent council activity, donations and local outreach to people experiencing homelessness.
Mike said the council revised bylaws to make achieving a quorum easier; that change was approved by the county board. He reported that Justice Point received a $10,000 private donation to support its work and that Dave Dixon recently joined the Justice Point board.
The coordinator also described expanded youth programming at Weiss Library and a faith-based effort to address homelessness. "The last thing is that the Hayward United Methodist Church pastor spoke [about the] homeless situation and what she's kind of leading some efforts to help with that," Mike said. He emphasized that the church is looking at a facility intended for one-night stays, "not for someone to come and stay indefinitely," and that people in need should first contact the Salvation Army for assistance.
Mike asked for outreach to community partners to fill program slots and noted the council has been working to create more space in local youth programming and supports.
