Commission sets Oct. 3 first readings for four ordinance amendments

The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to introduce amendments and set Oct. 3 for second reading and adoption of four proposed changes to local ordinances.
A commissioner moved to introduce and set for second reading an amendment to §19.003(e) of the city’s elimination-of-blight ordinance; another motion introduced an amendment to §16.204(c) of the rental-dwellings registration and inspection ordinance; the commission also introduced an amendment to the Mount Clemens Water Ordinance (transcribed as 25.116(c) section 6) and an amendment to §35.058(c) section 8 of the refuse-collection ordinance. Each motion was supported and advanced to the Oct. 3 meeting for second reading.
City staff and the city attorney explained that the transfer-to-tax eligibility they want to use excludes special assessments and identified four categories where tax transfers would be applicable; staff said if the city intends to use Community Development Block Grant funds for demolition or other actions it must own the property and apply for those funds.
All four introduction motions were advanced by voice/roll call; no ordinance text changes were adopted at first reading. The commission scheduled Oct. 3 for second readings and potential adoption.
