Chickasaw County sets March 23 public hearing on proposed max levy and publishes notice

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors voted to publish the proposed maximum property-tax levy notice and set a public hearing for March 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
Chair reviewed the publication notice prepared for newspapers and the county’s online channels and walked supervisors through example calculations for residential and commercial assessed values. The notice showed a county general-basic figure of 3.39806 in the example and projected that, if the proposed max levies are adopted, some taxpayers would see decreases in the county portion of their tax bills (examples in the packet indicated a decrease of roughly 7–8% under the illustrative scenarios presented).
A motion by Travis to set the public hearing and publish the notice was seconded and carried on board vote. The board directed staff to publish the notice in the New Hampton paper and specified publication dates in March as required.
Staff said department heads should be informed of the publication and that detailed levy numbers and fund-balance figures will be available in follow-up materials.
