Chickasaw County awards $2.28 million pavement-marking contract; chair authorized to sign resurfacing contracts

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors voted March 2 to award a shared pavement-marking contract to Quality Striking Inc. and authorized the chair to execute resurfacing contracts for an earlier-awarded B22 project.
Presenter Roman recommended awarding the combined Chickasaw–Howard County pavement-marking contract to Quality Striking Inc., noting the combined bid of about $2.277 million and that Chickasaw County’s portion was roughly $1.84 million, or about 97.5% of the county engineer’s estimate. "With that, I would recommend that we award the project Quality Striking Inc.," Roman said.
The board adopted Resolution 3-2-26-42 to delegate contract award and signing authority; a roll-call vote recorded ayes by the board members in attendance and the resolution passed.
Separately, supervisors authorized the chair to sign contracts for the county’s resurfacing project (B22) previously awarded to Matthew Construction. Board members and staff discussed a timing issue in the contract specifications that calls for a mobilization payment within 30 days of execution. Staff said they would contact the contractor to determine whether the contractor will accept delayed mobilization payment; if not, the board discussed advancing the payment from a non-departmental line and reimbursing it once levy proceeds are available.
The board’s actions formalize construction procurement steps for multiple road projects and provide staff authority to finalize agreements and proceed with project administration.
The county’s action followed staff presentations on bid comparisons and project administration; Howard County is taking a parallel vote on the shared marking contract.
