Board president says long-running lawsuit against district has ended

At the start of the March 5 Montero Water and Sanitary District meeting, President Scott announced that a nine-year lawsuit involving Montero and Granada has concluded and that the plaintiffs have chosen not to appeal.
Scott said the court issued a detailed opinion dismissing the claims brought by Half Moon Bay and described the outcome as a relief for ratepayers after an expensive and painful process. “Our rate payers are finally free of the wasteful and costly burden of this lawsuit,” he said, adding that the district and partner agencies should now focus on maintaining and upgrading critical system infrastructure.
Board members and attendees exchanged brief remarks of congratulations to staff and directors for managing the litigation through to conclusion. The board did not take further actions on that agenda item during the public session; the board moved to other business and then recessed to closed session for related items later in the agenda.
