Staff told the commission the purchase was negotiated quickly with the seller and recommended approval to secure additional office space near City Hall. Key terms presented: $1,400,000 purchase price, a 5% deposit ($70,000), a 45‑day due‑diligence inspection with an optional 30‑day extension and 90 days to close. Staff said the contract preserves the city’s right to terminate based on due diligence findings and that the seller’s MAI appraisal from January may be used after an authorizing letter and one additional appraisal as required by city procedures.
Commission discussion noted the building’s substantial construction, available parking lots behind the property and the operational benefit of freeing up space in City Hall. The commission moved and voted to approve the resolution authorizing the mayor and city clerk to execute the agreement; staff will proceed with due diligence and appraisal steps.
