The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to approve a concession agreement with Simple Adventures LLC that will allow the company to offer paddle-sport rentals on city premises through Dec. 31, 2018.
Staff told the commission the Harbor Commission recommended the concession and the agreement was reviewed by the city attorney. "The enclosed concession agreement would run through 12/31/2018," a staff presenter said. The agreement can be terminated by either party with 30 days written notice.
Commissioners asked several questions about the $500 annual fee, whether it covered both launch locations and how the city would monitor usage. Commissioner Manser asked whether the $500 was for both parks or per park; staff answered the fee covers both parks and said the figure was chosen as a conservative first-year amount and would be reviewed annually. "We thought $500 was a reasonable amount," staff said.
The motion to approve the agreement and to authorize the mayor and city clerk to execute it was made, supported and approved by roll call.
Commissioners also requested that Simple Adventures' rental numbers be included in monthly staff reports so the commission can track usage and the origin of renters as the program begins. The agreement was described as a pilot-year arrangement; the commission heard no competing concession proposals during the meeting.
