Commission approves three-year contract with Macomb County Sheriff for policing services

The Mount Clemens City Commission voted to approve a three-year law-enforcement services agreement with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office that will run Jan. 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2021. The contract lists annual amounts of $2,702,479 for 2019, $2,746,217 for 2020 and $2,778,133 for 2021.
City administration summarized the agreement and its staffing structure, saying Attachment A breaks down costs for one sergeant, 16 deputies, overhead and ancillary services including insurance, equipment and vehicle expenses. “Attachment A provides the breakdown of cost for 1 sergeant, 16 deputies, overhead, and ancillary services and vehicles,” an administration speaker said during presentation of the item.
Commissioners had no follow-up questions during the presentation. The chair called the roll and the motion passed by recorded voice vote. The commission’s approval authorizes the city manager and appropriate officials to finalize the contract for the stated three-year term.
The agreement replaces the city’s prior arrangement for county-provided law-enforcement services and reflects a multi-year budgeting commitment; discussion during the meeting focused on program structure and summary cost history presented by staff. The administration provided a historical comparison of prior years’ costs during the presentation.
