County committee recommends $1.3 million in community organization funding for FY27

Washington County staff presented the community organization funding recommendations for FY27 after a review by a five‑member volunteer committee.
Scott, the committee representative, said the committee received 63 applications from 58 organizations requesting a combined $3,058,897.43; the committee recommended distributing $1,300,000. The committee used a written rubric to score applications on completeness, program need, past performance, capacity, program plan and budget. Historically, the largest allocation area has been families and children (41.2% of recommended funding).
Scott noted the office ran an applicant workshop this year with 38 nonprofits in attendance and said the committee worked independently to score each application before group deliberations. Commissioners thanked the volunteer committee for its work and noted additional funding options (gaming funds and other notices of funding availability) that nonprofits can pursue.
Next steps: the board will consider the recommended allocations as part of the full FY27 budget approval in May.
