The Pickens County Development Authority elected new leadership during its March 6 meeting after members debated nominations and meeting rules. Committee member (speaker 2) agreed to serve as chair with conditions emphasizing openness; Michelle was elected vice chair.
The meeting opened with a formal call for nominations. A motion to nominate Michelle for chair was introduced but she declined, saying she did not feel ready for the role. Following that, a motion to appoint Michelle as vice chair was moved and seconded; members voted in favor and the motion carried. The chair recognized Michelle and members offered congratulations.
Committee member (speaker 2) then accepted the chair role and set conditions for his tenure, saying there would be "no NDAs, nothing private" while he serves and expressing opposition to holding executive sessions in secret. Other members cautioned that executive sessions are sometimes necessary under law and should remain an option; the group agreed to consult Robert's Rules and the bylaws if questions arise.
Members also discussed moving to quarterly regular meetings with the option to convene "as needed" between scheduled dates. The chair said he would consult the county attorney about bylaw requirements before formally changing the schedule. The meeting later moved, seconded and voted to elect the chair on the record.
The changes were procedural leadership decisions only; no other policy actions accompanied the elections. The authority concluded the items after congratulating the newly elected officers and moved on to the next agenda items.
