Town Manager Reed and project staff updated the council on progress for the Route 460 water‑line replacement project.
Reed reported that 171 one‑inch taps were completed in October and that crews repaired a drain pipe this week. Final taps for the current section were scheduled for the next day, after which pressure testing required by the health department will take place. The contractor (name referenced in project notes) is preparing to pave an affected lane; staff said Melvin’s Superbrides will be on site next Monday to pave the lane worked on and will return the following spring to mill and pave the remaining lane if needed.
Reed said air‑back tests required by the health department have been completed and passed for the finished sections; the remaining work will include tie‑ins and additional pressure testing. The project is being phased to finish necessary segments before the local asphalt plant closes the week of Nov. 10. Council asked staff about business impacts and enforcement on temporary traffic patterns; staff said the police department is increasing enforcement during the work window and that options to assist affected businesses are under review.
Staff described the overall Route 460 replacement as an 18‑month project; a follow‑up report on mitigation measures for affected businesses is forthcoming.
"It's good to know that the end is in sight and we will get through it," one councilmember said.
