At the Dec. 9 meeting the council approved a series of appointments and reappointments across town boards and authorities and set a public hearing to fill a council seat vacated when council member Joe Beasley became mayor.
The council voted to set a public hearing for Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 at 7 p.m. to consider applicants and resumes for the council vacancy; applications will be accepted through Jan. 5 at 10 a.m., the mayor said.
Council members approved motions to reappoint William Gillespie and Ben Moore to the Board of Building Code Appeals (terms noted), Leon O'Quinn to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Erica Galloway and Terry Mullins to the Historic Review Board, Rick Allen and Daniel Ingram to the IDDA, and to reappoint Jim Tattle as the Town's representative to the Tazewell County Airport Authority. Motions were seconded and carried by voice votes. Council agreed to notify each appointee and finalize appointments when the individuals accept.
The mayor instructed staff to send notifications to the appointees; the appointments will take effect upon acceptance by each individual.
