Minnesota Senate approves multiple committee-referral changes, then adjourns to March 4

The Minnesota Senate met on March 2, 2026, and approved multiple motions to withdraw and re-refer bills among standing committees before adjourning until Wednesday, March 4 at 11 a.m.
Senator Westland moved that “Senate File 2634 be withdrawn from the committee on education policy and re referred to the committee on education finance,” and the presiding officer announced the motion prevailed on a voice vote. Senator Koren moved that “Senate File 3238 be withdrawn from the committee on state and local government and re referred to the committee on human services”; that motion also prevailed. Senator John Hoffman moved that “Senate File 3755 be withdrawn from the committee on health and human services and refer to the committee on human services,” and Senator Rasmussen moved the same re-referral for “Senate File 3780.” Senator Dibble moved that “Senate File 3946 be withdrawn from the committee on judiciary and public safety and be re referred to the committee on transportation.” Each of those motions was resolved in favor by voice vote.
Earlier in the session the Senate adopted the printed committee reports from the agenda by voice vote and the secretary read a set of files given their second reading; Senate File 4065 was given its first reading and referred to the Committee on Transportation. The presiding officer also announced two members — Senators Carlson and Lantz — would vote from remote locations under rule 40.7.
The session opened with a brief prayer delivered by Reverend Chris Chatelaine Samson of Central Presbyterian Church in Saint Paul and a roll call, after which the presiding officer declared a quorum present. Senator Murphy had earlier moved to impose a call of the Senate and instruct the sergeant-at-arms to bring in absent members; that motion prevailed by voice vote.
No recorded roll-call tallies for the motions were given in the transcript; the presiding officer repeatedly resolved each motion by asking “all in favor” and then stating “the motion prevails.”
The Senate adjourned after Senator Murphy moved to recess until March 4 at 11 a.m.; the motion carried by voice vote.
