Council approves transfer of Riverside Drive parcel to IDA for farmers market development

The Town of Tazewell council voted to transfer a parcel on Riverside Drive to the town's Industrial & Economic Development Authority (IDA) to support potential future development of a farmers market project.
Staff read a resolution describing the parcels and the intended conveyance to the IDA; copies of the proposed deed and related documents were attached to the meeting packet. Council member Beasley introduced the resolution; after the second, the chair called a roll-call vote. Council members present (Beasley, Klein, Davis, Platts, Hankins and Lilly as listed in the roll call) each voted "Aye," and the transfer was approved. The resolution authorizes the mayor to execute deeds and other documents necessary to effectuate the conveyance to the IDA.
Staff said the transferred parcel is adjacent to other properties being considered for the farmers market and that the IDA intends to coordinate development. The council's action moves the property into the IDA's control for economic-development planning; specific project approvals and funding remain to be determined by the IDA and council in subsequent steps.
