Lake Wales commission appoints resident to code enforcement board, adopts fire-safety ordinance and tables developer credit agreement

The City Commission voted to appoint Fabiola Valencia to the Code Enforcement Board after Valencia introduced herself as a Lake Wales resident who applied to get more involved in the community. "My name is Fabiola Valencia. I've been a resident here in Lake Wales for the past 3 years," she told commissioners, adding that her background in marketing, management and compliance informs her interest in code enforcement.
A motion to approve Valencia to serve on the Code Enforcement Board was made and seconded; the motion carried and the chair welcomed her to the board.
During the consent-agenda portion of the meeting commissioners pulled item 7.7, a developer credit agreement, because it contained changes since the work session. The commission later voted to table that item until a future meeting so the document can be revised.
On ordinance business, the commission conducted a second reading and public hearing for Ordinance 2026-02, described in the meeting as "An ordinance amending chapter 10 fire prevention, Lake Wales Code of Ordinances to adopt standards of section 10-1, minimum fire safety standards." No members of the public spoke and commissioners moved to a roll-call vote; the clerk recorded affirmative votes and the ordinance was adopted.
The meeting also included scheduling of a special commission meeting to approve the ballot on Friday at 4 p.m.
