World Congress Center seeks $12 million for electrical upgrades and money for FIFA support

Kevin Duvall, CEO of the World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA), told the subcommittee the authority supports hundreds of events, generates substantial economic impact statewide, and is requesting $12 million for electrical systems upgrades to improve reliability, safety and capacity for exhibit power on the show floor. He said the funds would support comprehensive design and procurement for an initial phase of equipment replacement, including bus duct, distribution breakers and lighting controls.
Duvall also noted a separate $10 million line for security at the World Congress Center tied to FIFA and described planned multi-week activations (fan festival in Centennial Olympic Park and in-venue activations). He said prior investments, such as HVAC replacement, have been stewarded by the authority and stressed the importance of infrastructure to ensure the facility can host high-profile events, including upcoming FIFA matches and Super Bowl-related activities.
