"This is a bill to protect our cemeteries and to make sure that heirs or descendants of cemeteries have access to be able to maintain and keep up a family cemetery even though it might be on private land," Williams said.
Williams described the bill as creating a framework for mutual consideration between landowners and descendants so that maintenance can be arranged by agreement. When parties cannot agree, Williams said a superior court judge would make the final decision.
No vote on SB146 was recorded during this meeting; the senator noted SB146 will be heard tomorrow along with another referred bill. The committee or chamber will consider the bill further at that hearing.
