New chamber director asks Gadsden County municipalities for strategic plans, proposes workshop

Ty Smith, the newly appointed executive director of the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce, introduced himself to the Board of County Commissioners and asked municipal leaders to provide their strategic plans so the chamber can align recruitment and retention efforts across the county.
"I'm asking for each municipality's strategic plan so I can put them side by side and find out the commonalities and how the chamber can undergird and make sure... the business community understands what those needs are," Smith said after being introduced by the chair.
Smith requested a workshop to coordinate the chamber, county economic development and main‑street organizations on business attraction and local business expansion. Commissioners welcomed the outreach; one commissioner noted the county has an older strategic plan and staff said a new countywide strategic planning session is being planned.
What happens next: Smith said he will follow up with staff to share the chamber's findings and to schedule the requested workshop; administrators said they will provide the chamber with the existing plan and coordinate updates with municipalities.
