Gadsden County officials outline near‑term start dates for libraries, medical center and Boys & Girls Club

Interim County Administrator reported to the Gadsden County Board that several long‑running capital projects are moving into construction in the coming months. He said the county expects notices to proceed on the Havana Library, Havana Medical Center and Chattahoochee Library within 90–120 days and expects a notice to proceed on a planned public safety complex by May. He added the Boys & Girls Club project should receive a notice to proceed by June, although some procurements could finish sooner.

The administrator framed those dates as conservative estimates tied to the county's current procurement process. "We're gonna build a lot more projects in Gadsden County than we've done in many, many years," he said, and added he could "see the end" of the procurement phase.

Commissioners asked for clarifications about the projects' geography and timing. The chair confirmed there are two buildings planned in Havana, one in Chattahoochee, and the Boys & Girls Club in Quincy. Commissioners also discussed how project timing affects district priorities and urged staff to continue community engagement ahead of construction.

Why it matters: those notices will move the county from planning into active construction, unlocking local jobs and contractor selection and creating near‑term spending commitments. County staff and commissioners said the projects’ progression reflects an increase in infrastructure investment compared with prior years.
