Millard honors more than 30 National Merit semifinalists and commended students

Lowell Shetler, a school counselor at Millard North, told the board the National Merit process begins with the PSAT and that the district counted 37 students named as National Merit semifinalists or commended scholars this year. He said, "I'm very proud to say that Millard Public Schools has 37 students that are named National Merit or Commended semifinalists." Shetler introduced 24 Millard North students present at the meeting (14 semifinalists and 10 commended) and summarized individual achievements — athletics, research authorship, orchestra leadership and college plans.
Millard West and Millard South presenters introduced additional recognized students, noting extracurricular involvement (debate, music, DECA, science Olympiad) and college-planning details. The board and superintendent congratulated the students and families and paused for photographs. Trustees emphasized pride in both academic and athletic accomplishments across the district.
