Organizers seek county OK to serve free beer at annual 12 Hours of Mesa Verde fundraiser

Allen said the practice of handing a free beer to a racer at the finish has been requested annually and that the event has responsibly operated under the county’s prior permissions for more than ten years. He noted that in prior years the event raised funds for Four Corners Child Advocacy Center and other programs and that organizers hoped to continue that practice.
Chair (speaker 1) said he had not observed problems at past events and expected the board to take formal action at the regular meeting, noting the workshop could not legally adopt the permit in that setting. Organizers emphasized safety and volunteer oversight and invited commissioners to participate.
The board did not vote at the workshop; commissioners indicated no immediate objections and said they would place the permit request on the next meeting agenda for a formal vote.
