Mid South RCED to open grant cycle April 1, executive director Pam Hughes tells Elmore County Commission

Pam Hughes, executive director of Mid South RCED, briefed the Elmore County Commission on March 24 about the council's upcoming grant cycle and application process.
"My name is Pam Hughes, executive director of Mid South RCED," Hughes said. "Our grant cycle...opens April 1. It will run through June 30." She told commissioners the council started using new grant software last year and that grantees "have to log in and create an account in order to use our grant software," a change that staff say grantees have welcomed.
Hughes said the council managed 25 projects on the platform last year and that, while the state has not yet adopted an approved budget, the program director Mr. Cosby expects the council to be self‑sufficient this year. She thanked Desiree Lewis Jackson for her service representing the county on the council and invited local schools, nonprofits and fire departments to contact Mid South RCED about grant opportunities.
Commissioners thanked Hughes and her board for supporting tangible projects in the county, citing previously funded equipment for a county park and other community uses. No formal action was required; the presentation served as an informational briefing to help county staff and potential applicants prepare for the April 1 opening.
Next steps: staff and interested applicants are expected to use the new grant portal and to coordinate with Mid South RCED for application questions and deadlines.
