Elmore County honors longtime EMA employee David Brunson on retirement

Elmore County commissioners on Jan. 27 presented a resolution honoring David Brunson for more than 17 years of service with the county Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security Office.
Keith Barnett, identified in the meeting as Elmore County EMA director, recounted Brunson’s role founding the county’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and starting the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) program, praising Brunson for organizing equipment, supporting volunteer fire departments and helping execute the new emergency operations center (EOC). Barnett said Brunson is “the heart and soul” behind those efforts and noted his master-level certification from the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers.
Brunson said the county’s EOC and 911 functions were consolidated into a new facility, noting the commission’s support for a more durable facility and referencing a $4,700,000 building that now houses 911 administration and the EOC. Commissioners presented a written resolution that summarized Brunson’s service and wished him well in his retirement.
The commission approved the resolution by unanimous roll call.
