The Surprise Library Advisory Commission voted to approve the Dec. 11, 2025 meeting minutes during its Jan. 8 meeting after a motion and a second; the motion carried with members voting in favor.
Staff gave several routine reports: a staff member said the "marriage literacy challenge" kickoff at Assante was one of the library's largest events, drawing 514 people; staff noted the event included outdoor activities, a train for children and a visit from Vice Mayor Hastings. The staff update also reported progress at Hollyhock Library — new operable windows and refreshed decorative bars at the front entrance — and personnel changes: Shanae was promoted and will move to Hollyhock, and a new part‑time library assistant, Akayla, will join the Regional branch. Staff said those hires will open a library aide vacancy that will be filled through the hiring process.
The commission discussed volunteer and event listings for the coming months; staff said they would circulate volunteer opportunities and story time training dates. There were no public commenters during the call to the public.
A motion to adjourn was made later in the meeting, seconded and carried; the chair then adjourned the session.
