The Surprise City Council selected Council Member Earl Greenberg as vice mayor and swore him into office during the Jan. 20 meeting, and the council also unanimously approved Lisa Everett's appointment to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Following the clerk's explanation of the selection procedure for vice mayor under city code, a council member nominated Earl Greenberg. After the council's written ballot, the clerk announced Greenberg as vice mayor. Greenberg took the oath of office and was sworn in at the dais.
Later the council considered the nomination of Lisa Everett to the Planning and Zoning Commission with a term expiration of June 30, 2027. Council Member Haney introduced Everett and cited her civic engagement and impartial approach to development matters; the council voted to approve the appointment. Everett repeated the oath and was sworn in.
Clerk recorded the votes as pass and unanimous where noted in the record; no numerical tallies were read during the proceedings. No related formal motions beyond those votes were taken at the meeting time.
The council also approved the consent agenda (with item 4 pulled for later consideration) during the same meeting.
