Planning board adopts 2026 calendar, forwards chair and vice-chair nominations and notes development activity

Staff presented a proposed planning board calendar for 2026 (second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.) and a board member moved to approve the schedule; Chair S1 announced the motion carried after an affirmative vote.

Staff (speaker S2) explained the annual process for recommending a chair and vice chair to town council. Members nominated Lee Langston to continue as chair and Chris Robuck to continue as vice chair; those recommendations will be forwarded to town council for final appointment effective January 2026.

In project updates, staff reported two new development applications: a multi-tenant retail building proposed for Chapel Hill Road and site/construction plans for athletic fields and tennis courts at Cedar Fork Elementary, described as a joint partnership with Wake County Public School System tied to a new high school under construction.

Staff also summarized recent council discussion of a safety action plan and a separate alternate transit study that reviewed the smart shuttle. The transit recommendations presented to council included transitioning micro-transit from larger shuttles to smaller minivans to reduce costs and add vehicle capacity, and adding additional stops to serve residents more effectively.

The board was also told the town launched a revamped website. No formal votes were taken on the development applications at this meeting; the board's nominations for chair and vice chair will be considered by council.
