Prince William County School Board approves personnel actions, collective bargaining side letter and naming committee

The Prince William County School Board on March 4 approved a set of closed-session personnel appointments and releases, certified its closed session and voted to authorize a side letter to a collective bargaining agreement, then appointed a naming committee for a new Woodbridge district elementary school.
Vice Chair Jesse moved the appointment and release of employees identified in closed session; the motion passed unanimously. After returning to open session the board unanimously adopted the closed-session certification required under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.
On a separate motion, the board voted 5–1, with one member not present, to approve and authorize the chair to sign a side letter to the collective bargaining agreement ratified May 7, 2025. Later the board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Lateef, Lori Williams and Tracy Blake to the naming committee for the new Woodbridge elementary school under board policy 8‑54.
Chair called multiple procedural votes earlier in the meeting, including approval of the agenda and the consent agenda. The consent agenda and multiple other items passed by unanimous or near‑unanimous margins during the meeting.
Public comment at the meeting included a range of topics that the board did not formally act on tonight: parents and community members pressed for clearer weather‑closure policies after a December bus crash, urged objective, rubric‑based handling of Title VI and racial‑harassment complaints, sought an inquiry into an alleged athletic conflict of interest, and advocated for an indoor track facility at the site of a canceled school.
The board also heard a lengthy presentation on advanced academic programs and countywide access that provoked questions from members about program alignment, transferability of credits and standards for dual‑enrollment courses. Superintendent Dr. Latonya McDade and staff indicated audits and ongoing work will inform future policy decisions and resource allocations.
The meeting concluded after district updates and an internal audit committee report; the chair adjourned the session.
