Council approves $750,000 city match and $5M state award for Mesa del Sol business accelerator

Staff analysis projected the accelerator would employ roughly 40 staff directly at the center and catalyze more than 1,150 new long‑term jobs over the project period, with average wages above county medians and added regional economic activity. The project manager said initial commitments of $100,000,000 of private investment had been identified and the developer expects cohorts of international companies to locate at the center.
Councilors questioned local hiring, project oversight and community benefits. The floor substitute added a provision to emphasize local hiring to “the extent possible” and clarified project participation terms; bond counsel said the substitute incorporated council feedback. Representatives from the New Mexico Economic Development Department and project proponents spoke in support and several members of the public offered brief comments (both supportive and asking for focus on local corridors).
After discussion the council adopted the floor substitute and then approved the ordinance as substituted on a unanimous vote.
